he aircraft engine casing is a critical component that provides structural support, protection, and power transmission for an aircraft engine. Due to its large size, thin-walled structure, and complex geometry, traditional manufacturing methods face challenges such as high tooling costs and long production cycles.
To overcome these challenges, we have adopted Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) investment casting technology, utilizing an innovative wax pattern splicing process to achieve integrated casting of large, thin-walled casings, with the thinnest section reaching just 2mm. This breakthrough significantly enhances manufacturing efficiency and ensures high-quality, precise castings.
The production of aircraft engine casings presents several key challenges:
To tackle these challenges, we implemented a Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) wax pattern investment casting process, combined with splicing technology to achieve high-precision, large-size, thin-walled casing production.
SLS 3D printing technology allows us to directly create high-precision wax patterns, eliminating the need for expensive tooling while significantly reducing production time. Key advantages include:
Since individual SLS prints have size constraints, we developed a wax pattern splicing technique to manufacture large engine casings as a single unit while ensuring structural integrity.
Building on the SLS wax pattern, we employ high-precision investment casting to produce final components with exceptional mechanical properties and dimensional accuracy, while minimizing defects.
The successful application of SLS wax pattern investment casting has opened new possibilities for manufacturing aircraft engine casings and other complex components. This technology significantly reduces production costs, shortens lead times, and enhances product consistency, making it highly suitable for aerospace, automotive, and high-performance energy equipment manufacturing.
As 3D printing continues to integrate with traditional casting, the future of aircraft component manufacturing will become more efficient, flexible, and innovative, paving the way for next-generation aerospace advancements.
